Live from the Hole x Question Culture

Question Culture brought Live from the Hole to the California Institution for Women with Grammy award winning artist Kehlani, creating a filmed learning and healing experience centered on the voices of incarcerated women.

The day moved across a screening of Songs from the Hole, facilitated conversation, small-group dialogue, and filmed reflections—bringing artists inside and outside into an honest exchange about accountability, healing, creativity, and freedom.

Working in service of Question Culture’s artistic and creative vision, Lunarsol served as the field-production and institutional partner management. We led production on the ground, bridging the creative ambition of the experience with the realities of filming inside a correctional facility.

Our work included coordinating institutional approvals, equipment and filming windows, gate clearances, media releases, participant care, and the day-of production flow. We also helped shape how the live experience could generate stories across film, photography, facilitated dialogue, and future educational media—without losing the intimacy of the room.

Live from the Hole centers stories of how incarceration shapes women, families, and communities—making visible how women experience prison and practice survival, accountability, and care within it.

These stories become tools for abolitionist advocacy, challenging punishment as the default response to harm and inviting a deeper understanding of what healing can require.

Through guided reflection, participants created Healing Plans: personal and collective visions for healing rooted in accountability, repair, care, and freedom. By designing how we heal, we begin to imagine—and build—a world beyond incarceration.
