Art in Relationship: A Residency and Community Mural in Bahia

Lunarsol partnered with Asé Bahia to launch its inaugural artist residency, welcoming artist Erin Yoshi and her family to live and create on its farm in Arembepe, Bahia.

Rooted in community, culture, and place, the residency created space for artistic practice to grow through relationships. A community mural emerged from that exchange—a lasting expression of collective creativity and connection to the land.

The residency began with immersion rather than a predetermined outcome. Erin and her family spent time on the farm listening, learning, and allowing the people, landscape, and rhythms of Bahia to guide the creative process.

Together, Lunarsol and Asé Bahia shaped an artist-led, family-centered experience grounded in cultural exchange, community participation, and experimentation.

The residency culminated in a community mural, created through two intergenerational workshops with children ages 2–17, parents, and elders.

Beyond the mural, the project introduced participants to mural-making as an accessible form of creative expression—and a potential pathway within the local creative economy. It built skills, expanded participation, and opened new possibilities for creating and engaging with public art.
